The Aviation Weather Assets Database (AWAD)

ARW

The Aviation Weather Assets Database (AWAD) is a relational database used to manage and track the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) weather assets. The purpose of AWAD is to allow the FAA to keep current and up-to-date information on all of the weather related equipment it controls, owns, maintains, and/or monitors. Some of the data provided by the database includes information relating to the sites (facility name, city, state, etc.), historical weather conditions and patterns at those sites, various types of air traffic at those sites (air carrier, air taxi, general aviation, military aviation, etc.), information about the type of weather equipment (ASOS, AWOS, etc), what type of weather observations are conducted at a particular site, and the data used to score and rank service levels for each location. Currently, there are over 11 million bytes of information in 47 database tables in AWAD. FAA and ASOS data contained in the database occupy more than 2,300 records.
