All private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for noncommercial purposes must give 24 hour prior notice to both the Department of Civil Aviation (TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: DEPAC RIO DE JANEIRO/TELEX: 02152311) and to the Airport of landing. 2. Prior notifications will become valid only after acknowledgement of the notification has been received. The acknowledgement must be carried on board the aircraft during the flight into or across Brazilian territory. 3. Nonscheduled commercial aircraft landing for commercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Department of Civil Aviation, Santos Dumont Airport, 4 Andar 20021 Rio de Janeiro, RJ Brazil (TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: DEPAC RIO DE JANEIRO/TELEX: 02152315/02152316/02152320) at least 15 days prior to arrival. (If diplomatic channels are used, permission must be requested 30 days in advance.) All requests must include: a. Name, citizenship and address of aircraft owner and/or operator. b. Aircraft type and registration marks. c. Name and citizenship of the pilot in command. d. Names, qualification and issuing state of crew members licenses. e. Route of flight and if aircraft is IFR equipped. f. Dates, times of arrival and departure. g. Airports of entry, intermediate stops and final departure. h. Purpose of flight, number of passengers and amount of cargo, including points of loading/unloading of passengers/cargo. i. Intended period of permanency of aircraft in Brazil. (Aircraft may remain in Brazil for a maximum of 105 days but a request for an extension may be made 15 days prior to the expiration of the period.) 4. Passport and visa required. Tourist visas are issued within 24 hours if the applicant submits in person. Visas valid for multiple entries within 5
years from date of first entry for a stay of up to 90 days (renewable for the same length of stay by the Federal Police in Brazil), requires 1 application form, 1 passport size photo, and proof of
onward/return transportation. There is a processing fee of $100 for tourist. There is a $10 service fee for applications sent by mail, or by anyone other than applicant. Provide SASE for return of
passport by mail. Minors (under 18) traveling alone, with one parent or with a third party, must present written authorization by the absent parent(s) or legal guardian, specifically granting
permission to travel alone, with one parent or with a third party. This authorization must be notarized, authenticated by the Brazilian Embassy or Consulate, and translated into Portuguese. For

3. Corporate Aircraft ConstraintsThe Brazilian CAA has been requiring copilots to possess a type rating. This basically means that unless there are two type rated pilots on board the airplane, then the flight is at risk of being grounded, a fine of $10,000 imposed and/or possibly the non-rated/insufficiently rated pilot being jailed. The copilot does not have to be a captain, just has to have the type rating. Before flying into Brazil, you can go to a FSDO in order to obtain the copilot type rating (for the appropriate aircraft) so that you are legal for flying to any international destination (i.e. Brazil). 4.
