     1. All private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for noncommercial purposes must give 24 hour prior notice to both the Department of Civil Aviation (TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: DEPAC RIO DE JANEIRO/TELEX: 02152311) and to the Airport of landing.

Nonscheduled commercial aircraft landing for commercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Department of Civil Aviation, Santos Dumont Airport, 4 Andar 20021 Rio de Janeiro, RJ Brazil (TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: DEPAC RIO DE JANEIRO/TELEX: 02152315/02152316/02152320) at least 15 days prior to arrival. (If diplomatic channels are used, permission must be requested 30 days in advance.) All requests must include:

       a. Name, citizenship and address of aircraft owner and/or operator.

       b. Aircraft type and registration marks.

       c. Name and citizenship of the pilot in command.

3. Corporate Aircraft Constraints

The Brazilian CAA has been requiring copilots to possess a type rating. This basically means that unless there are two type rated pilots on board the airplane, then the flight is at risk of being grounded, a fine of $10,000 imposed and/or possibly the non-rated/insufficiently rated pilot being jailed. The copilot does not have to be a captain, just has to have the type rating. Before flying into Brazil, you can go to a FSDO in order to obtain the copilot type rating (for the appropriate aircraft) so that you are legal for flying to any international destination (i.e. Brazil).
