The categories of airports are:

M-Major

International airports of entry and departure where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are carried out, and which are open to scheduled and nonscheduled flights.

R-Restricted

International airports of entry and departure at which the formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are made available on a restricted basis, to flights with prior approval only.

A-Alternate

International airports specified in the flight plan to which a flight may proceed when it becomes inadvisable to land at the airport of intended landing.

N-Nonscheduled

International airports at which approval may be granted, provided the prescribed prior notice is given, for international nonscheduled flights only; no other form of international operation is permitted.

E-External

International airports of entry and departure for international air traffic located in an administered territory, where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are available.

2. Further Entry Requirements

1. Private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for noncommercial purposes must provide prior notification to the Direccion General de Aeronautica Civil, Ministerio de Defensa, Avenida Mariscal Lopez y Vice-Presidente Sanchez, Asunction, Paraguay (Telegraphic Address: AEROCIVIL ASUNCION; Telex: 629 PY MDN) at least 24 hours prior to departure.

2. Notification must include:

a. Type of aircraft, nationality, and registration marks.

b. Purpose of flight.

c. Name of pilot.

d. Number of passengers.

e. Airport of departure and final destination.

f. Dates and times of arrival and departure in Paraguay, if landing.

g. Dates, times of entry and exit from the airspace of Paraguay, if overflying.

h. Radio equipment and frequencies available.

3. Nonscheduled commercial aircraft landing for commercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Direccion General de Aeronautica Civil prior to departure. Requests should include the above information and all other pertinent information concerning the commercial nature of the flight and should be submitted far enough in advance to insure receipt of flight permission before departure.

A passport and visa are required. Tourist visa applicants must present with their application a passport with at least six months validity from the date of the application; one passport photograph; a bank statement or other evidence of financial solvency; appropriate fee; and a round-trip ticket or a printed trip itinerary prepared by a travel agency. Persons traveling on business must also submit a company letter. Applicants under 18 years of age traveling alone must appear with both parents or a legal guardian. In case of a guardian, an original and one copy of proof of legal guardianship is required. A document of authorization from parents/guardian will be accepted only if it is notarized and certified by the county clerk. There is an airport international departure tax, payable in either U.S. or local currency (no credit cards or checks accepted). 3. Corporate Aircraft Constraints

Cabotage requires permission of General Directorate of Civil Aviation.

4. Special Notices

To guard against possible delays in the event that the required notification message is not received, it is recommended that a copy of the message endorsed by the telegraph company be carried by the pilot to prove that the message was sent. It is further recommended that immediately upon arrival the pilot check with the addressee to ascertain whether the message was received. In the event of nonreceipt steps may then be taken immediately to avoid a delay upon attempt to depart.
