The categories of airports are:

M-Major

International airports of entry and departure where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are carried out, and which are open to scheduled and nonscheduled flights.

R-Restricted

International airports of entry and departure at which the formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are made available on a restricted basis, to flights with prior approval only.

A-Alternate

International airports specified in the flight plan to which a flight may proceed when it becomes inadvisable to land at the airport of intended landing.

N-Nonscheduled

International airports at which approval may be granted, provided the prescribed prior notice is given, for international nonscheduled flights only; no other form of international operation is permitted.

E-External

International airports of entry and departure for international air traffic located in an administered territory, where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are available.

2. Further Entry Requirements

     1. All private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for noncommercial purposes need not obtain prior permission; however, a flight plan must be on file.

     2. All nonscheduled commercial aircraft landing for commercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Civil Aviation Administration, S-601 79 Norrkoping, Sweden (TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: CIVILAIR NORRKOPING/TELEX: 64250 CIVAIR S) at least 48 hours prior to departure, not including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

     3. All requests must include:

       a. Name and address of carrier.

       b. Type of aircraft and registration marks, including nationality.

       c. Dates, times, and airports of arrival/departure from Sweden.

       d. Places of onloading and offloading of passengers and cargo in Sweden.

       e. Number of passengers and type and amount of cargo.

       f. Purpose of flight.

       g. Name and address of charterer, if any.

       h. Proof of third party liability and carrier's liability insurance coverage.

     4. Inclusive tour charter flights, affinity charter flights and own use charter flights may be subject to special restrictions. Application forms for these types of flights should be requested well in advance of flight from the Civil Aviation Administration.

     5. Passport required. Visa not required for a stay of up to 90 days. (**90-day period begins when entering Schengen countries.)
