The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Aviation Insurance Program provides products that address the insurance needs of the U.S. domestic airline industry not adequately met by the commercial insurance market.

The Secretary of Transportation recognizes the need to provide aviation insurance coverage for U.S. flag commercial air carrier service in domestic and international operations through August 31, 2008 and therefore as approved by the Presidential Determination dated December 27, 2007 (Federal Register: January 9, 2008, Volume 73, Number 6, Page 1813-1814) pursuant to section 44302(c) of Chapter 443 of 49 U.S.C. aviation war risk insurance policies for the period March 31, 2008 through August 31, 2008 have been issued.
