The Office of the Regional Counsel represents the FAA and provides legal advice to each of the regional lines of business in a wide variety of areas. The Office works with the Flight Standards, Security, Medical, Airports and Certification Divisions in prosecuting legal safety enforcement actions against pilots, mechanics, air carriers, airports, and other entities and individuals who commit violations of the Federal Aviation Regulations. The Office serves as counsel for the, Rotorcraft Directorate, assisting in the development of airworthiness directives. The Office also provides advice and represents the FAA regarding personnel actions involving the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Merit Systems Protection Board. Other responsibilities include environmental/airports issues and procurement, contracting and real estate matters, responding to Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act requests and providing advice to the lines of business on those Acts. Finally, the Office is responsible for implementing the FAA's internal ethics program.
