Who is Eligible to apply for the “Disabled Veteran with 30% or more disability” On-the-Spot Hiring Authority?

  • Disabled Veterans who were retired from active military service with a service-connected disability rating of 30 percent or more; and
  • Disabled Veterans rated by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as having a compensable service-connected disability of 30 percent or more. A Disabled Veteran who has a compensable service-connected disability of 30 percent or more which is officially documented by the Department of Defense or the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Applicants must meet all qualification requirements to include any requirement to achieve a passing score on a written test.

Conditions of Employment: Appointees must initially serve under a temporary appointment not limited to 60 days or less. After successful performance of such a temporary appointment, FAA may convert the employee to a permanent position. However, there is no requirement that a conversion to a permanent position be made within 60 days.

Documentation Required: Submit, with the application, a DD 214, Certificate of Discharge indicating disability rating or documentation from VA or a Branch of the Armed Forces indicating the disability rating.
