photo of Pearlis JohnsonMr. Pearlis Johnson is currently the Acting Regional Administrator for Southern Region. He has a diverse background in senior management and executive level service in both FAA and in the aviation industry. Mr. Johnson's experience in government spans over 28 years, and his private aviation industry experience exceeds ten years.

Before joining the FAA Southern Region, Mr. Johnson led international aviation regional safety goals and objectives as Program Manager of the Safe Skies for Africa Program in the Office of International Aviation. He also served as Manager of Strategic Information Communications and Evaluations for Flight Standards from 1991 to 1994.

In 1994, Mr. Johnson decided to expand his knowledge of aviation operations and joined Northwest Airlines (NWA) where he held several key management positions, including Managing Director of Customer Service and Operations Human Resources. Reporting directly to Northwest's Senior Executive Vice President for Operations, he managed human resources, executive recruitment, selection, employee development and training for over 56,000 global airline employees. His responsibilities also included labor relations and organizational design. Mr. Johnson was instrumental in developing and implementing Northwest Airlines’ emergency response plans for the essential task of addressing family needs following airline incidents or accidents and anti-drug abatement programs. He also led NWA's corporate-wide management information systems risk mitigation activities for the NWA's 26 affiliated companies at the turn of the new millennium.

Departing NWA in 2001, Mr. Johnson served as the Vice President for Operations and Marketing for Operational Technologies Services in Vienna, Virginia. While there, he led and directed technical and administrative personnel providing engineering services and training to the Federal Government.
