Joyce Scott has served the Great Lakes Region in this capacity since May 2002. The 8 state region has approximately 5,600 employees. The region is one of the largest in terms of registered aircraft and airports.  It has the world’s busiest Air Traffic Control Centers at Cleveland and Chicago, and the largest and best U.S. air show – the EAA AirVenture at Oshkosh.  The region is also the nighttime air cargo hub of the nation.

Prior to her current position, Joyce worked for the Security and Hazardous Materials Division as Manager of the Chicago Civil Aviation Security Field Office, where she had pre 9/11 management oversight for regulating security matters at Part 139 airports in IL, IN, OH.

Ms. Scott has distinguished herself as a recipient of several Superior Accomplishment and Special Achievement Awards, as well as Letters of Commendation, during her 18-year FAA career.  For her role in responding to the events of September 11, 2001, Ms. Scott received the U.S. Secretary of Transportation Award for Distinguished Service.  August 2006, Ms. Scott successfully completed program requirements at the prestigious Federal Executive Institute, Charlottesville, Virginia.  Ms. Scott is among the FAA Administrator’s Awardees for Excellence in Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Affirmative Employment and Diversity.  She was recognized for strong leadership and dedication in enhancing EEO through personnel selections, training, mentoring, and outreach. 

Joyce began her federal service career in 1984 as a criminal investigator within the US Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration.

A native of Chicago, Ms. Scott holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Loyola University of Chicago.
