Peter Fahrenthold is the Corporate Director of Risk Management and Assistant Treasurer for the Northrop Grumman Corporation located in Falls Church, VA. He joined Northrop Grumman in July 2011 and is responsible for the assessment and mitigation of risk and for the placement of property/casualty insurance for all aviation and non-aviation operations. Northrop Grumman has 75,000 employees and revenue of $26 billion.
Before joining Northrop Grumman, Mr. Fahrenthold was the Managing Director of Risk Management for United Continental Holdings, Inc., of Chicago, IL. There he led the combined risk management function of Continental Airlines and United Airlines following their October 2010 merger, which created the largest airline in the world. Before the merger of Continental Airlines and United Airlines, Mr. Fahrenthold was the Managing Director of Risk Management for Continental Airlines, then the fifth largest airline in the world. Prior to the merger with United Airlines, Continental had 40,000 employees, 365 aircraft, and revenue of $15 billion.
His accomplishments include creating and implementing the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program at Continental Airlines and serving on its Risk Committee. The Continental ERM program addressed all significant business risks of the organization on a global basis (including financial, strategic, compliance, reporting, and supply chain exposures); and working extensively with the Federal Aviation Administration on the design and continuous improvement of the Chapter 443 War Risk Insurance program that was expanded following the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks.
Mr. Fahrenthold earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin. He further holds a Master's Degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University at Daytona Beach, FL.
