ROCSAT / Athena-1

Lockheed Martin Corporation successfully launched an Athena 1 launch vehicle on 27 January 1999 at 00:34 UTC. The Athena 1 was launched from Spaceport Florida, and carried the ROCSAT satellite to low-earth orbit. Developed by TRW for the Republic of China (ROC) National Space Program Office (NSPO), the ROCSAT contains ROC-built space physics, oceanography and communications experiments. As the first spacecraft in its civil space program, ROCSAT will allow NSPO to meet two goals: develop a science satellite and establish ROC satellite design and development capabilities.
