Orbital Sciences Corporation launched a Pegasus XL on December 4, 1999. The Pegasus XL was released from an L-1011 staged from Wallops Flight Facility, Virginia, and carried seven ORBCOMM satellites to low earth orbit. ORBCOMM is a mobile satellite service provider offering two-way data and messaging communications globally. ORBCOMM applications include monitoring of industrial assets such as pipelines, storage tanks, and construction equipment; tracking of mobile assets such as trailers, railcars and shipping containers; and two-way message communications in the recreational, commercial, military and automotive markets. The completed ORBCOMM system will consist of 36 satellites. Currently, 35 satellites have been launched.
