National Flight Data Center (NFDC)
NFDC serves as the principal element within the FAA responsible for collecting, collating, validating, storing, and disseminating aeronautical information detailing the physical description and operational status of all components of the National Airspace System (NAS).
NFDC maintains the national aeronautical information database, the National Airspace System Resources (NASR), and provides aeronautical information to government, military, and private producers of aeronautical charts, publications, and flight management systems. This office is responsible for managing and assigning location identifiers for airports, navigational aids, communications facilities, and weather stations, as well as five-letter fix names, in the NAS.
Additionaly, NFDC supports the day-to-day management of NAS data used by the FAA to produce various aeronautical publications. NASR consists of fixed aeronautical information (airports, runways, navigational aids, instrument landing systems, fixes, airways, military training routes, towers, and the remaining fixed assets of the NAS).
The NASR provides official government source data that defines and describes the infrastructure of the NAS. The data originates from a wide spectrum of authorized sources, including Federal Government offices and systems, FAA air traffic facilities, airway facilities operations, regional offices, airport district offices, procedure developers, the Department of Defense, airport owners and operators, inspectors, and state governments. Multiple agencies, companies, and systems within the civilian government, military, and commercial aviation community use this data.
The web-enabled version of NASR (eNASR), provides users with access to NASR through a web browser.
