Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) Systems
AIM Systems is responsible for operations, maintenance and enhancement of aeronautical information management systems, hardware and software. AIM Systems includes three components:
- NAS Aeronautical Information Management Environment System (NAIMES)
- Military Operations (MILOPS)
- Airspace and Aeronautical Information Management Laboratory (ATALAB)
NAIMES, housed at the Air Traffic Control System Command Center (ATCSCC), is responsible for managing real-time operational aeronautical information. Key capabilities of NAIMES include:
- Creating, validating and publishing NOTAMs.
- Supporting flight planning activities
- Supporting military airspace scheduling
- Providing aeronautical information portals to enable operators to get access to real time aeronautical information.
Systems that are operated by NAIMES include:
- US NOTAM System (USNS) for managing and disseminating US NOTAMs. The USNS includes NOTAM Entry Systems (NES) as well as system to system interfaces.
- Aeronautical Information Services Replacement (AISR) for weather, NOTAM and flight planning functions supporting Air Traffic Controllers and Flight Service Stations
- Pilotweb, TFR web site and other web sites that allow end users to get real time aeronautical information updates.
- Special Use Airspace Management System (SAMS) for managing military airspace schedules.
The ATALAB is located both in FAA headquarters and the ATCSCC. The ATALAB does advanced concept prototyping and develops automation systems supporting aeronautical information services. The ATALAB includes:
- Traffic data repository containing about 10 years of ETMS (Enhanced Traffic Management System) and NOP (National Offload Program) traffic data used for analyses and fee for service calculations
- An analytical staff that can support short and long term airspace system analyses and information requests
- Sector Design and Analysis Tool (SDAT) used for post-operational analysis and design. SDAT provides airspace automation capabilities that support facility airspace offices.
