Overview

The goal of Technology Transfer is to transfer knowledge, facilities, equipment or capabilities developed by Federal laboratories or agencies to the private sector. Technology Transfer promotes collaborative research and development between the federal laboratories and state and local governments, academia, and private industry. Cooperative Research and Development Agreements are used for this purpose. Technology Transfer also advocates the protection and commercialization of new technologies developed by agency personnel through patents and licensing. This will expand the United States technology base and maximize the return on investment in Federally funded research and development (R&D).
