Flying around Anchorage, Alaska can be challenging as well as exiting. Within a 6-mile radius: there are four busy airports with overlapping departure and arrival routes, a special Federal Air Regulation (FAR) establishes how air traffic is segregated among these airports, and controlled airspace which is complex and non-standard. Also, diverse fleets of aircraft operate in the Anchorage area. Examples: Piper Super Cubs, Boeing 747 cargo jets, and high speed fighter jets. These factors create a challenging environment for all pilots.
