This guide is designed to assist FAA Aviation Safety Inspectors (ASI's) in evaluating new Global Positioning System (GPS) installations and operations. Because there are many documents providing information, regulations, and guidelines for various types of receiver approvals, this guide has been created to provide one source for most FAA GPS approvals. This document contains aids such as flow charts and checklists to provide ASI's with a consistent process for performing approvals.

In addition, relevant excerpts from regulatory documents are included in references so ASI's will rarely need separate sources of information. These excerpts were current at the time of publication (October 1996) and are subject to change. This document will be updated periodically.
