Advanced control systems is a specialized discipline of study, design, and analysis of apparatus and function to achieve a desired operation or effect on aircraft performance. Aircraft performance control through all phases of flight, engine fuel flow, and thrust control are examples of the application of advanced control technology.

The scope of the advanced control systems discipline includes flight controls, engine controls, advanced sensors, fiber optics, associated displays, processors, storage, linear and nonlinear control laws, control system design, development, simulation, analysis, and testing.
