Technical Discipline: Fuel System Design
The fuel system design discipline focuses on fuel tank safety issues. On February 17, 2004, FAA Administrator, Marion Blakey, announced the FAA would release a proposed rule that would require flammability reduction on Boeing and Airbus airplanes for both production and retrofit airplanes. Through the CSTA program’s fuel system design discipline, the FAA is pursuing a balanced approach to reduce risk of additional fuel tank explosions through ignition prevention and flammability reduction.
