Chief Scientific and Technical Advisor for Crash Dynamics

Mr. Stephen Soltis has served as the FAA’s Chief Scientific and Technical Advisor for Crash Dynamics since 1981. He succeeded to this position from the Aircraft Certification Service Engine and Propeller Directorate. He came to the FAA with 15 years industry experience with McDonnell Aircraft and Hughes Helicopters.

Mr. Soltis is considered the worldwide authority of crash dynamics research and certification matters and has represented the FAA in advanced crash dynamics issues at national, international, intergovernmental, and Government-industry meetings. Further, he has developed and published numerous technical scientific papers, many of which are considered indispensable aids in rulemaking, certification, and directed research.

Through Mr. Soltis’ efforts, the FAA has been established as a leading authority in crash dynamics technology and research.
