Series 150 Advisory Circulars (ACs) for Airport Projects

Contains the Federal Aviation Administration standards for the siting and installation of signs on airport runways and taxiways. Incorporates mandatory hold signs that reflect changed standards for the Precision Obstacle Free Zone (POFZ) and Category (CAT II/III) operations. Includes sign standards to assist airport operators in designating (1) the POFZ holding position in those instances where a taxiway, holding apron, or other movement area would result in an aircraft fuselage or tail penetrating, and (2) the alternative holding position on a taxiway during CAT II/III operations necessary to maintain adequate aircraft separation.

Explains how to obtain the latest airport-related research and development (R&D) products funded by the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) Airports Organization through the agency's Airport Technology Research and Development Branch, the Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP), the Innovative Pavement Research Foundation (IPRF), and the Airfield Asphalt Pavement Technology Program (AAPTP).

Provides the specifications for Airport Imagery acquisition and how to submit the imagery for review and approval in support of aeronautical information and airport engineering surveys. See also Airports GIS Video Training Series.

This version adds Item P-632, Bituminous Pavement Rejuvenation.

Specifies the minimum requirements for an Airport Lighting Control and Monitoring System (ALCMS). The ALCMS simplifies the control and monitoring of lighted visual aids and enhances airport safety. The basic function of the system remains the same whether for a general aviation airport that supports only a few operations in a day or a large commercial airport that caters to hundreds of operations on any given day.

Effective six months after the issue date of the AC, only that equipment qualified in accordance with this specification will be listed in accordance with AC 150/5345-53, Airport Lighting Equipment Certification Program. Airports that have previously installed an Airport Lighting Control and Monitoring System (ALCMS) will not be required to install a new system after the effective date of the AC.

Version E updates Item P-620, Runway and Taxiway Painting, to include new information on Preformed Thermoplastic Airport Pavement Markings and Application—Preformed Airport Pavement Markings; clarifies that Prohibited Materials cannot exceed permissible limits as specified in relevant Federal Regulations; adds Item P-621, Saw-Cut Grooves; and updates references to Saw-Cut Grooves in Items P-401, Plant Mix Bituminous Pavements, and P-501, Portland Cement Concrete.

Provides guidance for the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of aviation grade artificial turf in areas adjacent to the operational areas of an airport.

Provides guidance on understanding, identifying, preventing, and mitigating alkali-silica reactivity (ASR) in fresh and hardened Portland cement concrete airfield pavements. Version A deletes Chapter 8 of Appendix 1 to remove all reference to the dilatometer test protocol. The test protocol may be reinstated when fully developed.
