Series 150 Advisory Circulars (ACs) for Airport Projects

Provides guidance for the selection of a water source and standards for the design of a distribution system to support aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) service operations on airports.

The AC was cancelled for the following reason. The primary reference upon which the document is based, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 419 - Guide for Master Planning Airport Water Supply Systems for Fire Protection, was cancelled in 1996. The relevant information from that specification has been inserted in other NFPA standards. Therefore, the AC is no longer necessary as water supply safety is ensured through a variety of other guidance material used by airport operators and architectural and engineering firms.

Provides guidance on preparing for water rescue operations.

Provides guidance to planners and communities interested in developing a civil vertiport or vertistop.

Provides guidance on the use of nondestructive testing equipment to evaluate the load-carrying capacity of airport pavements.

Provides guidance to airport owners and inspectors on using FAA Forms 5010-3 and 5010-5.

Provides standards for the construction of airports. Items covered include general provisions, earthwork, flexible base courses, rigid base courses, flexible surface courses, rigid pavement, fencing, drainage, turfing, and lighting installation. See Errata Sheet below.

Version E updates Item P-620, Runway and Taxiway Painting, to include new information on Preformed Thermoplastic Airport Pavement Markings and Application—Preformed Airport Pavement Markings; clarifies that Prohibited Materials cannot exceed permissible limits as specified in relevant Federal Regulations; adds Item P-621, Saw-Cut Grooves; and updates references to Saw-Cut Grooves in Items P-401, Plant Mix Bituminous Pavements, and P-501, Portland Cement Concrete.

Incorporates new mandatory hold signs that reflect changed standards for the Precision Obstacle Free Zone (POFZ) and Category (CAT II/III ) operations. These changes correspond to revisions to AC 150/5300-13, Airport Design, that change the Precision Object Free Area (POFA) to the POFZ and incorporate new separation standards for taxiways that parallel runways used for certain low visibility operations. This AC cancels AC 150/5340-18C, Standards for Airport Sign Systems, dated July 31, 1991.

Describes the standards for markings used on airport runways, taxiways, and aprons.

Contains the Federal Aviation Administration standards for the siting and installation of signs on airport runways and taxiways. Incorporates mandatory hold signs that reflect changed standards for the Precision Obstacle Free Zone (POFZ) and Category (CAT II/III) operations. Includes sign standards to assist airport operators in designating (1) the POFZ holding position in those instances where a taxiway, holding apron, or other movement area would result in an aircraft fuselage or tail penetrating, and (2) the alternative holding position on a taxiway during CAT II/III operations necessary to maintain adequate aircraft separation.

Provides guidance for using the standardized International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) method to report airport pavement strength. The standardized method is known as the Aircraft Classification Number – Pavement Classification Number (ACN-PCN) method.
