This advisory circular (AC) provides guidance to assist airport operators in developing a snow and ice control plan, conducting and reporting runway friction surveys, and establishing snow removal and control procedures. Version B of this AC cancelled AC 150/5220-13B, Runway Surface Condition Sensor Specification Guide, dated March 27, 1991. Consolidated file contains Change 1.

Provides guidance for the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of aviation grade artificial turf in areas adjacent to the operational areas of an airport.

Establishes minimum performance requirements for the design, construction, inspection, and maintenance of heated pavement systems for use in the Aircraft Operations Area (AOA).

Announces the availability of the Airport Safety Self-Inspection DVD, which replaces the previously issued videotape. It also corrects a previously released announcement, dated January 31, 2007, that was incorrectly numbered AC 150/5200-18C.

Announces the availability of RTCA, Inc., Document RTCA/DO-221, Guidance and Recommended Requirements for Airport Surface Movement Sensors, dated April 24, 1994. Provides recommended minimum performance standards for airport surface movement sensors and specifies both sensor and system characteristics that provide guidance to airport systems designers, manufacturers, installers, and users of the equipment.

Announces availability of Guidelines for the Sound Insulation of Residences Exposed to Aircraft Operations. Updated file includes complete report.

Explains how to obtain the latest airport-related research and development (R&D) products funded by the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) Airports Organization. This AC describes R&D products from the FAA’s Airport Technology Research and Development Branch, the Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP), the Innovative Pavement Research Foundation (IPRF), and the Airfield Asphalt Pavement Technology Program (AAPTP).

Announces the availability of the Guide for Private Flyers published by the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The Guide lists all U.S. international airports, designated airports, landing rights airports, and user fee airports. It also defines the term InternationalAirport and clarifies the use of the word International in an airport name. Any airport may use the word International in its name. However, only airports listed in the CBP guide are considered international airports for CBP purposes.

This AC replaces AC 150/5000-5C, Designated U.S. International Airports.

Announces the availability of two training programs on aircraft taxi procedures and tug and tow procedures, and also provides information about how to acquire these programs

Provides guidance for airport sponsors in the selection and employment of architectural, engineering, and planning consultants under Federal Aviation Administration airport grant programs.

This advisory circular (AC) contains the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) standard for the non-Federal AWOS. This AC applies to anyone proposing to design, procure, construct, install, activate or maintain an AWOS.

Provides guidance for the site selection and design of buildings used to store and maintain airport snow and ice control equipment, store approved materials, and provide personnel areas required to support the requirements under the airport operator’s winter storm management plan.

Contains a specification for a circuit selector switch for use in airport lighting circuits.

Provides guidance for citizen involvement in airport planning. Although not mandatory for airport grant programs, it explains the need for early citizen participation.

Provides guidance for reporting construction progress of projects under the Airport Improvement Program (AIP). Discusses use of FAA Form 5370-1, Construction Progress and Inspection Report.

Contains guidance on complying with new Federal statutory requirements regarding the construction or establishment of landfills near public airports.

Provides guidance and recommendations on the installation of airport visual aids.
