Aeronautical Information Exchange Model 5
The role of AIXM is to support aeronautical data exchange between systems. With version 5, AIXM will be refactored to incorporate the latest XML, modeling and GIS standards including:
- UML models for AIXM and AICM
- GML 3.1.x (Geography Markup Language)
- Alignment with the ISO19100 series standards for geographic data
In addition, AIXM 5 will include significant aeronautical data modeling improvements to ensure that AIXM can support international aeronautical data exchange. These changes include:
- Improved terminal procedures model that accommodates TERPS and PANS-OPS
- Improved obstacle model in compliance with the latest ICAO amendments
The technical proposals and modeling for AIXM 5 are being collaboratively developed by the United States FAA, United States NGA and Eurocontrol. Check back on this site regularly for more information and details on how you can learn more and participate in the review process.
In order to protect the investments of existing AIXM 4.5 users, one or more AIXM 4.5.x schemas will be released to transition legacy systems from AIXM 4.x to AIXM 5. It is likely that the AIXM 4.5.x schemas will adopt many of the AIXM 5 aeronautical data model changes, but changes such as GML might not be included in the AIXM 4.5.x schemas.
