Southern Region
Runway Safety Program

The Regional Runway Safety Program Office is responsible for developing and implementing runway safety guidance for the 107 airports in the region with an air traffic control tower.  Our geographic area covers Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands.  REGIONAL MAP

We are the largest and busiest of the FAA regions with 73 commercial airports and 34 general aviation airports.  For a current list of the towered airports in the Southern Region, click here SOUTHERN REGION TOWERED AIRPORTS LIST

The Runway Safety Program Office goals are to:

  • Develop, emphasize, and promote a runway safety education and awareness program for pilots, controllers, pedestrians, vehicles, tug operators and mechanics taxiing aircraft.

  • Prevent and/or significantly reduce Category "A and B" runway incursions through enhanced safety and situational awareness, airport familiarization and training.

We hope you’ll visit our site often and help us increase runway safety awareness - and reach our ultimate objective of eliminating runway incursions and surface incidents.

Thank you,

Anna B. Cohen
Regional Runway Safety Program Manager
