Take a flight through American Airlines history! Displayed are hundreds of historical artifacts, photographs, full-scale aircraft engines and the Flagship Knoxville, a rare Douglas DC-3 airliner. Interactive exhibits entice participation by all age groups. An enormous 1WERKS Theater presents American's history on the big screen every thirty minutes. A superb gift shop accommodates American and airline enthusiasts of all kinds. The museum is conveniently located south of D/FW Airport. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Call for information about group tours, educational programs and event rates. You won't need a ticket for this.

One of the finest collections of vintage war birds in the U.S. From WWI through Vietnam, the aircraft on display cover the gamut. A 125 mph Sopwith Camel is only a hanger away from a 1,350 mph MIG-21. verything is maintained in mint, flyable condition. And if your timing is right, there's a fair chance, particularly on weekends, you'll get to see some of these rare, vintage machines fly! Open Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5.50 for adults and $2.75 for children 6 to 12. Children under 5 are free.

A truly superb memorabilia and photography collection depicting all aspects of aviation from pre-Wright aeronautics to the present. A full-scale Sopwith Pup hangs just outside the museum doors. Hundreds of display models, Adm. Richard Byrd's parka; Glenn Curtiss' original pilot's license, china from the ill-fated airship Hindenburg, a wicker seat from a Ford 7Wmotor, a space suit and hundreds upon hundreds of other amazing items fill this terrific facility from top to bottom. FAA educational materials for all ages are available. The gift shop is amply stocked with numerous collectibles. Ask about special events, the annual Dallas Airshow and parking for buses. Museum admission is $2 for adults.

Some fifteen unique display aircraft line the main street into and out of this historic air base. In addition, two memorials recognize special events and personnel. The aircraft represent a broad cross-section of the types utilized by the three military services that currently co-occupy what was for many decades Carswell AFB. Among the types on static display are the Lockheed Martin F-16;the Republic F-105; the McDonnell F-4 (two); the Grumman F-14; the Douglas A-4 (three); the North American F-86; the Lockheed F-80; the Bell UH-1; the Bell OH-58; the Sikorsky UH-34; and the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18. The base also sponsors a biennial airshow (the first occurred in 1996) that is one of the largest events of any kind held in the Metroplex. Base access is, at times, restricted, so it is recommended that a phone call be made to verify status before visiting. Admission is free.

One of the world's finest aerospace reference libraries. Now consisting of over 30,000 volumes, several hundred-thousand periodicals, and hundreds of thousands of photographs covering the entire spectrum of flight from pre-Wright Aeronautica to the present. WWI aviation section is possibly without peer in the world. Alongside the written references are numerous models and an eclectic batch of memorabilia including parts of the dirigible Hindenburg. The world-famous Rosendahl lighter-than-air collection is here along with the CAT/Air America archives, and the Jimmy Doolittle library. Open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays. Admission is free.

Dedicated to the little-heralded combat glider pilots, troop carrier crews, airborne troops, and aircraft of World War II, this unique museum displays one of three fully restored Waco
CG-4A cargo gliders known to exist in the world. Many other related artifacts also are displayed including hundreds of rare, original photos, newspapers, and documents. These cover the history of gliders in combat, historical battles involving gliders, and some of the little known achievements of these unpowered combat machines. Much of the original action is brought back to life through video tapes and other interpretive displays. A gift shop sells books, videos, and other collectibles. Museum admission is free. Donations are welcome!

Featuring automobiles, ircraft, a railroad car, and mines sweeping boat, this is an eclectic collection with something for everyone interested in the science, technology, and history of transportation. Many aircraft are displayed from the post-World War II era, including a Douglas C-47, a Vought F-8, a Republic F-105, a North American F-86, a Fairchild C-119, a Grumman HU-16, a McDonnell F-101, and several others. The memorabilia collection, which includes a number of aircraft engines and other parts including a prototype B-36 wheel and tire, is quite extraordinary. A newly formed collection of flyable military aircraft and hangar with the Vintage Flying Museum, it contains an assortment of jet fighters and trainers. Explore "Chuckie", one of the world's few flyable Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses. Owned by Doc and Chuckie Hospers, this aircraft, manufactured during World War II under license by Lockheed Vega in California, is the museum's primary focus. Eleven other vintage aircraft also are on display. In a separate area there is an extensive artifact and memorabilia exhibit with heavy emphases on air combat over Europe during WWII. A large aircraft engine collection is exhibited as well. As a designated FAA Aviation Education Resource Center, education materials for all ages are available.
