The categories of airports are:

M-Major

International airports of entry and departure where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are carried out, and which are open to scheduled and nonscheduled flights.

R-Restricted

International airports of entry and departure at which the formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are made available on a restricted basis, to flights with prior approval only.

A-Alternate

International airports specified in the flight plan to which a flight may proceed when it becomes inadvisable to land at the airport of intended landing.

N-Nonscheduled

International airports at which approval may be granted, provided the prescribed prior notice is given, for international nonscheduled flights only; no other form of international operation is permitted.

E-External

International airports of entry and departure for international air traffic located in an administered territory, where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are available.

2. Further Entry Requirements

     1. All private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for commercial or noncommercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Direccao Nacional da Aviacao, Civil Servico da Aeronautica Civil, Caixa Postal 569, Luanda, Angola (TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: AERONAUTICA LUANDA/TELEX: NONE), at least 72 hours in advance of departure. All requests must include:

       a. Aircraft type, registration marks and nationality.

       b. Name of aircraft commander and nationality of crew.

       c. Purpose of flight.

       d. Number and nationalities of passengers and type and amount of cargo.

       e. Complete route of flight from point of origin to final destination, including dates and times of arrival and departure or entry and exit from Angolan airspace, as applicable.

     2. Passport and visa required. Tourist/business visas require an application form, 1 recent photo with name on back, letter stating purpose of travel, letter of invitation sent by the individual or institution to be contacted in Angola, photocopy of a round-trip ticket or travel itinerary, proof of sufficient funds, and $55 fee. Visa is good for stay of up to 90 days. The Consular Office of the Embassy of Angola has the right to request additional information, if necessary. 4. Special Notices

     Because of the unsettled situation in Angola, all pilots must ascertain both personal and aircraft entry requirements with the Government of Angola well in advance of flight.
