M-Major

International airports of entry and departure where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are carried out, and which are open to scheduled and nonscheduled flights.

R-Restricted

International airports of entry and departure at which the formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are made available on a restricted basis, to flights with prior approval only.

A-Alternate

International airports specified in the flight plan to which a flight may proceed when it becomes inadvisable to land at the airport of intended landing.

N-Nonscheduled

International airports at which approval may be granted, provided the prescribed prior notice is given, for international nonscheduled flights only; no other form of international operation is permitted.

E-External

International airports of entry and departure for international air traffic located in an administered territory, where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are available.

2. Further Entry Requirements

1. Private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for commercial or noncommercial purposes must provide prior notice to the Ministere des Transports, De L'Equipement Et Des Communications Direction Generale de L'Aviation Civil, B.P. 1158, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (AFTN: DFFVYAYX, FAX +226 31 10 08, TELEX: SEGEGOUV 55555 BF) THREE DAYS PRIOR NOTICE IS REQUIRED. All notifications must include:

a. Type of aircraft and registration marks.

b. Radio call or flight number.

c. Name and address of aircraft operator.

d. If charter, owner of aircraft.

e. Name and nationality of pilot and number and nationalities of crew.

f. Complete route of flight.

g. Number of passengers and type and amount of cargo.

h. Purpose of flight. In addition, a flight plan must be on file at least 24 hours prior to departure.

NOTE- Nonscheduled commercial aircraft landing for commercial purposes must also obtain, in advance, a temporary operating clearance, in addition to the above notification requirements, from the Ministere Des Transports, De L' Equipement Et Des Communication.

2. Passport and visa required. Single-entry or multiple-entry visa, valid 3 months for visit up to 3 months, extendible once in Burkina Faso, requires $50 fee, 2 application forms, and 2 photos. Send passport by registered mail and include postage or prepaid envelope for return by mail. Payment accepted in certified check, company check, or money order only.
