The categories of airports are:

M-Major

International airports of entry and departure where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are carried out, and which are open to scheduled and nonscheduled flights.

R-Restricted

International airports of entry and departure at which the formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are made available on a restricted basis, to flights with prior approval only.

A-Alternate

International airports specified in the flight plan to which a flight may proceed when it becomes inadvisable to land at the airport of intended landing.

N-Nonscheduled

International airports at which approval may be granted, provided the prescribed prior notice is given, for international nonscheduled flights only; no other form of international operation is permitted.

E-External

International airports of entry and departure for international air traffic located in an administered territory, where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are available.

2. Further Entry Requirements

     1. All private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for commercial or noncommercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Director General of Civil Aviation (TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: AFTN-GVACY/TELEX: NONE) at least 5 days prior to departure. All requests must include:

       a. Name of aircraft operator.

       b. Type of aircraft and registration marks.

       c. Name and nationality of pilot and number of crew.

       d. Number of passengers and type and amount of cargo.

       e. Complete route of flight including points and times of entry and departure from Cape Verdean airspace.

       f. Date and time of arrival and departure if landing.

       g. Purpose of flight.

       h. Name, address, and business of charterer, if any.

       i. Type and amount of fuel and facilities required for aircraft and crew.

     2. Information concerning cargo on board should be very detailed. The operator should not take-off before receiving authorization for his request. All other aircraft overflying or landing for commercial or noncommercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Ministry of Defense and Security of Cape Verde at least 5 days prior to departure. All request must include items a through i, above.

     3. Passport and visa required. For specific requirements, consult the Embassy of the Republic of Cape Verde, 3415 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20007 (202/965-6820) or Consulate General, 535 Boylston St., 2nd Floor, Boston, MA 02116 (617/353-0014).

3. Corporate Aircraft Constraints

     None reported. Flights to/from a country at war must follow clearance procedures for military aircraft.
