The categories of airports are:

M-Major

International airports of entry and departure where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are carried out, and which are open to scheduled and nonscheduled flights.

R-Restricted

International airports of entry and departure at which the formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are made available on a restricted basis, to flights with prior approval only.

A-Alternate

International airports specified in the flight plan to which a flight may proceed when it becomes inadvisable to land at the airport of intended landing.

N-Nonscheduled

International airports at which approval may be granted, provided the prescribed prior notice is given, for international nonscheduled flights only; no other form of international operation is permitted.

E-External

International airports of entry and departure for international air traffic located in an administered territory, where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are available.

2. Further Entry Requirements

     1. Private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for noncommercial purposes need not obtain prior permission; however, a flight plan must be on file.

     2. Nonscheduled commercial aircraft landing for commercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Cyprus Air Transport Licensing Authority, Department of Civil Aviation, Nicosia, Cyprus (TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: CIVAIR NICOSIA/TELEX: 6055 CIVAIR/FAX: 357 2 366547) far enough in advance of the flight to provide for processing and reply. All applications must include:

       a. Name of operator.

       b. Name of charterer.

       c. Origin and destination of flight.

       d. Type of aircraft and registration marks.

       e. Purpose of flight.

       f. Date and time of arrival and departure.

       g. Number of passengers and type and amount of cargo.

     3. Passport and round-trip ticket required. Visa not required for tourist/business stay of up to 3 months. For employment and other travel, work permit required and must be obtained in advance. AIDS test required for work or study permits (test is part of a medical examination).
