The categories of airports are:

M-Major

International airports of entry and departure where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are carried out, and which are open to scheduled and nonscheduled flights.

R-Restricted

International airports of entry and departure at which the formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are made available on a restricted basis, to flights with prior approval only.

A-Alternate

International airports specified in the flight plan to which a flight may proceed when it becomes inadvisable to land at the airport of intended landing.

N-Nonscheduled

International airports at which approval may be granted, provided the prescribed prior notice is given, for international nonscheduled flights only; no other form of international operation is permitted.

E-External

International airports of entry and departure for international air traffic located in an administered territory, where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are available.

2. Further Entry Requirements

     1. All private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for noncommercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Division of Civil Aviation, Department of Transportation, Communications and Infrastructure, P.O. Box PS-2, Palikir, Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia 96941. TELEX: UNIV AVIA 1794388 FMGOV. FAX: +691 320-5853 AFTNFAYX at least 7 days prior to departure.

     2. All requests must include:

       a. Name and address of aircraft operator and chartering organization, if any.

       b. Aircraft type and registration marks.

       c. Dates, times, and airports of arrival and departure.

       d. Complete route of flight.

       e. Number of crew and names.

       f. Number of passengers, and type and amount of cargo.

     3. (Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Yap) - Proof of U.S. citizenship, sufficient funds, and onward/return ticket required for tourist visit up to 30 days, extendible (up to 1 year from date of entry) after arrival in Micronesia. Entry permit is needed for other types of travel; obtain forms from airline. Departure fee for Chuuk, Kosrae, and Pohnpei is $10 (U.S.), and $5 (U.S.) for Yap. Health certificate may be required if traveling from infected area. AIDS test required if staying over 90 days; U.S. test is accepted.
