The categories of airports are:

M-Major

International airports of entry and departure where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are carried out, and which are open to scheduled and nonscheduled flights.

R-Restricted

International airports of entry and departure at which the formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are made available on a restricted basis, to flights with prior approval only.

A-Alternate

International airports specified in the flight plan to which a flight may proceed when it becomes inadvisable to land at the airport of intended landing.

N-Nonscheduled

International airports at which approval may be granted, provided the prescribed prior notice is given, for international nonscheduled flights only; no other form of international operation is permitted.

E-External

International airports of entry and departure for international air traffic located in an administered territory, where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are available.

2. Further Entry Requirements

     1. All private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for noncommercial purposes need not obtain prior permission, but must have a flight plan on file which specifies the geographic point of entry into French airspace.

     2. Nonscheduled commercial aircraft (including air travel clubs and affinity group charters) landing for commercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Direction Generale de L'Aviation Civile (DTA/E), 93 Boulevard du Montparnasse A Paris, 75270 Paris Cedex 06, France (TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: AVIACIVIL PARIS/TELEX: NONE) at least 15 days prior to departure. Applications must include:

       a. Name and address of operator.

       b. Type of aircraft and registration marks.

       c. Complete route of flight.

       d. Date and time of arrival and airport concerned.

       e. Name and address of contact in France.

       f. Number of passengers.

       g. Type and amount of cargo.

       h. If contributory group charter, cost per passenger. All requests must be submitted in triplicate and should be submitted on application "Formulaire B," available from the Ministere des Affaires Entrangeres.

     3. Passport required. Visa not required for tourist/business stay of up to 90 days in France, Andorra, Monaco, and Corsica, and 1 month in French Polynesia. (**90-day period begins when entering Schengen countries.) 3. Corporate Aircraft Constraints

     Cabotage prohibited for residents and nonresidents. Corporate aircraft may fly to noncustoms airports or perform repeated noncabotage flights for a period up to 6 months if the operator posts a bond and obtains a temporary import permit from customs on first entry.

4. Special Notices

     A private aircraft may remain in French territory for a maximum duration of 6 months (within a 1 year period) without being subject to French taxes and special authorizations. During that time the aircraft remains under surveillance of the French Customs Bureau. However, upon arrival, which must be at designated aerodrome of entry, the pilot is given, at no cost, a "Control Document" edited in French, English and Spanish, which must be returned to the French Customs prior to leaving France (such departure having to be made also from a designated aerodromes of entry). If the aircraft does not remain in France more than 7 days, a "Control Document" will not be issued.
