The categories of airports are:

M-Major

International airports of entry and departure where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are carried out, and which are open to scheduled and nonscheduled flights.

R-Restricted

International airports of entry and departure at which the formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are made available on a restricted basis, to flights with prior approval only.

A-Alternate

International airports specified in the flight plan to which a flight may proceed when it becomes inadvisable to land at the airport of intended landing.

N-Nonscheduled

International airports at which approval may be granted, provided the prescribed prior notice is given, for international nonscheduled flights only; no other form of international operation is permitted.

E-External

International airports of entry and departure for international air traffic located in an administered territory, where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are available.

2. Further Entry Requirements

     1. All private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for noncommercial purposes need not obtain prior permission; however, a flight plan must be on file. Nonscheduled commercial aircraft landing for commercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Director of Civil Aviation, Oranapai Towers, P.O. Box 1006, Wights Lane, Kingston Georgetown, Guyana (Telegraphic Address: CIVILAIR GUYANA; Telex: 3035 TIMCAD GY) at least 48 hours prior to departure. Applications must include:

       a. Name of operator.

       b. Type of aircraft and registration marks.

       c. Date and time of arrival at, and departure from Guyana.

       d. Place or places of embarkation or disembarkation of passengers and/or cargo.

       e. Purpose of flight.

       f. Number of passengers and type and amount of cargo.

       g. Name, address and business of charterer, if any.

3. Corporate Aircraft Constraints

     Cabotage or flights to other than Timehri Airport require prior approval of Ministry of Home Affairs.

4. Special Notices

     1. All aircraft operating within the interior of Guyana must maintain two-way communication with the Georgetown Flight Information Centre on 6730.5 KHz (128.6 MHz). Prior permission must be obtained from the Director of Civil Aviation and from the Minister of Home Affairs to operate privately within the interior of Guyana.

     2. No single engine aircraft are permitted to operate between sunset and sunrise.

     3. A deposit or security by bond is required in respect of the import duty ordinarily payable for aircraft which remain in the country longer than 3 days.

     4. Aircraft operators no longer must submit a currency declaration form on arrival and departure detailing all currency held, from all countries. All foreign aircraft are required to purchase fuel locally in U.S. dollars.

     5. All foreign (non-Guyanese) aircraft are required to pay aeronautical charges in U.S. dollars.
