All private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for noncommercial purposes must obtain prior permission, for the Director of Civil Aviation at least 48 hours prior to entering the airspace of Sri Lanka. All request must include items (a) thru (g) below. 2. All nonscheduled commercial aircraft landing for commercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Director of Civil Aviation, Lotus Road, Colombo 1, Sri Lanka (Telegraphic Address: AIRCIVIL COLOMBO; Telex: None) at least 48 hours prior to departure. 3. All requests must include: a. Name of operator. b. Type of aircraft and registration marks. c. Date and time of arrival at the airport concerned. d. Purpose of flight. e. Number of passengers, type and amount of cargo. f. Name, address, and business of charterer, if any. and g. Fuel and servicing requirements. 4. Clearance for scheduled commercial flights to land in Sri Lanka for commercial purposes is given only on the basis of a bilateral air services agreement between the aeronautical authorities of Sri Lanka and the aeronautical authorities of the country to which the scheduled carrier belongs. 5. Charter flights and air travel club flights must apply for permission to the Director of Civil Aviation at least three months in advance of the intended flight. 6. Approval for airlines desirous of carrying freight to or from Sri Lanka on receipt of an application to the Director of Civil Aviation furnishing the following information required well in advance of the date of operation: a. Itinerary of the flight or flight schedule for Regular Carriage. b. Type and registration of aircraft to be used. c. Name and address of the local agent. d. Nature of cargo. e. An ad-hoc charter carrier should forward in addition to the above information a copy of Declaration of Competency issued by the aeronautical authority of the airline's country of origin. 7. Once approval is granted the airline should ensure that cargo is handled expeditiously and Air Lanka is not burdened as a result of any delay in handling. 8. Passport, onward/return ticket and proof of sufficient funds ($30 per day) required. Tourist visa not required for stay of up to 30 days
(extendible in Sri Lanka). For business travel, visa required and must be obtained in advance. Business visa valid 30 days, requires 1 application form, 2 photos, a company letter, a letter from
sponsoring agency in Sri Lanka and employing company in U.S., a copy of an onward/return ticket, and $45 fee. Include $9 postage for return of passport by registered mail. For further information,
