R-Restricted

International airports of entry and departure at which the formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are made available on a restricted basis, to flights with prior approval only.

A-Alternate

International airports specified in the flight plan to which a flight may proceed when it becomes inadvisable to land at the airport of intended landing.

N-Nonscheduled

International airports at which approval may be granted, provided the prescribed prior notice is given, for international nonscheduled flights only; no other form of international operation is permitted.

E-External

International airports of entry and departure for international air traffic located in an administered territory, where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are available.

1. All private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for commercial and noncommercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Ministre Des Transports, De La Meteorologie Et Du Tourisme, Direction De L'Aviation Civile, Service Des Transports Aeriens, B.P. 47, Antananarivo, Madagascar (Telegraphic Address: AVIACIVIL ANTANANARIVO; Telex: None) at least 15 days prior to departure (AFTN Address: FMMDYA).

2. All requests must include provision for prepaid reply and include:

a. Aircraft type, nationality, and registration marks.

b. Name and address of aircraft owners, operator, and charterer.

c. Number of passengers and type and amount of cargo.

d. Names, nationalities, dates and places of birth of all persons on board and functions of crew members.

e. Nature of flight (overflight, technical stopover).

f. Complete route of flight from original point of departure to final destination, including intermediate stops.

g. Dates and times of arrival and departure at airports to be used in Madagascar.

h. Purpose of flight.

i. Any other information which may be pertinent to the flight.

3. Passport and visa required. Visa allows entry in Madagascar within 6 months from the date of issuance. Short-term visas valid for single-entry up to 90 days, $33.45; or multiple entries, $39.01 (no personal checks). Requires 1 application form, 1 photo, proof of onward/return transportation, and sufficient funds for stay. For business visa, the aforementioned is required, including company letter. Include a prepaid envelope for return of passport by registered mail. 3. Corporate Aircraft Constraints

Cabotage requires permission of Ministry of Transport. Aircraft flying to/from South Africa may not land in Madagascar or use its airspace.
