The categories of airports are:

M-Major

International airports of entry and departure where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are carried out, and which are open to scheduled and nonscheduled flights.

R-Restricted

International airports of entry and departure at which the formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are made available on a restricted basis, to flights with prior approval only.

A-Alternate

International airports specified in the flight plan to which a flight may proceed when it becomes inadvisable to land at the airport of intended landing.

N-Nonscheduled

International airports at which approval may be granted, provided the prescribed prior notice is given, for international nonscheduled flights only; no other form of international operation is permitted.

E-External

International airports of entry and departure for international air traffic located in an administered territory, where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are available.

2. Further Entry Requirements

     1. All private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for noncommercial purposes must provide 72 hours advance notice to the Ministere des Transports, Direction de L'Aviation Civile, B.P. 227, Bamako, Mali (Telegraphic Address: AVIACIVIL BAMAKO; Telex: None).

     2. Advance notifications must include:

       a. Type of aircraft, serial number, and call sign.

       b. Nationality of company and registration of aircraft.

       c. Name and address of owner or charterer.

       d. Purpose of flight.

       e. Complete route of flight including dates, time, and points of entry and exit from the airspace of Mali and airports of arrival and departure.

       f. Name, nationality, and title of aircraft commander.

       g. Number of flight crew.

     3. Nonscheduled commercial aircraft landing for commercial purposes must request prior permission from the Ministere des Transports at least 15 days prior to departure. In addition to the above information, requests must include:

       a. Number, names, and nationalities of passengers and type and amount of cargo.

       b. Name of pilot and number of crew members. All requests must include provisions for prepaid response.

     4. Passport and visa required. Obtain visa in advance. Tourist/business single-entry visa for stay of up to 3 months, may be extended after arrival, requires $80 fee (cash or money order), 2 application forms, 2 photos, and proof of onward/return transportation. For business travel, must have company letter stating purpose of trip. Send SASE for return of passport if applying by mail and/or appropriate express mail fees. 3. Corporate Aircraft Constraints

     Flights to/from Israel and South Africa are prohibited from landing or overflight. No other constraints reported.

4. Special Notices

     1. Upon arrival at all locations, the pilot must immediately report to the airport administration and comply with the instructions given.

     2. Onward flights to or from Israel and South Africa are not granted overflight or landing clearance, regardless of type of aircraft or purpose of flight. Flights to and from other nations are not subject to restrictions.
