Airports of Entry (AOE)

The categories of airports are:

M-Major

International airports of entry and departure where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are carried out, and which are open to scheduled and nonscheduled flights.

R-Restricted

International airports of entry and departure at which the formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are made available on a restricted basis, to flights with prior approval only.

A-Alternate

International airports specified in the flight plan to which a flight may proceed when it becomes inadvisable to land at the airport of intended landing.

N-Nonscheduled

International airports at which approval may be granted, provided the prescribed prior notice is given, for international nonscheduled flights only; no other form of international operation is permitted.

E-External

International airports of entry and departure for international air traffic located in an administered territory, where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are available.

2. Further Entry Requirements

     All nonscheduled commercial air transport, general aviation, military or official aircraft overflying the national airspace and/or landing at Augusto Cesar Sandino International Airport must obtain permission at least 3 days in advance by:

       a. Commercial telecommunications system.

       b. The General Directorate of Civil Aviation (FAX 505 222 7516).

       c. Letter to P. O. Box 4936.

     NOTE- Operators must carry a copy of the request sent to the DGAC and be prepared to present this proof of request upon arrival.

       d. Request should include the following:

         1. Origin and destinations.

         2. Type of aircraft and registration number.

         3. Name of pilot and crew members.

         4. Names of passengers.

         5. Flight plan and altitude.

         6. Estimated date and time of airspace entry and exit.

         7. Type of cargo.

     NOTE- Flight requests of official nature for military and civilian aircraft should be sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or through our diplomatic missions in their respective countries at least 3 days in advance. The request may be sent through the commercial telecommunication system, by Telex 1206, 1426 and 1071, or by letter to P. O. Box 127, address: Costado Sur Del Restaurante Los Ranchos, Managua, Nicaragua.

     Passport, onward/return ticket and entry fee required for a stay of up to 30 days. Airport departure tax $18. 4. Special Notices

     1. All unscheduled commercial air transport and general, military, or official aviation must request permission at least 3 days in advance in order to overfly Nicaraguan air space and/or land at Agusto Cesar Sandino International Airport. Request must be prepaid. Applications for permits may be made by means of messages sent through Fax 5052 27516 or by letter to the Ministry of Transportation, Plaza Espana, P.O. Box 4936, Building 17, Managua, Nicaragua.

     2. Applications must contain the following information:

       a. Origin and destination.

       b. Registration and type of aircraft.

       c. Names of crew members.

       d. Names of passengers.

       e. Route of airway to be flown and altitude level.

       f. Date and estimated time of entry into and departure from Nicaraguan airspace.

       g. Type of cargo.

     3. Applications for overflights must be sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or transmitted through the Nicaraguan Diplomatic offices in the appropriate countries. They must be sent to the Ministry 5 days in advance and to the Diplomatic Offices 3 days in advance. Requests made by messages may be sent through the commercial telecommunications system to Telex 1206, 1426, and 1071. Requests made by letter should be sent to P.O. Box 127, South Side of Restaurante Los Ranchos, Managua, Nicaragua.

     4. The Government of Nicaragua is tightening its regulations regarding commercial, private and military flights into their country. Pilots planning flights to Nicaragua should assume that entry, overflight and landing authorization has been obtained from the appropriate aviation authority prior to departure and that when operating within their airspace strictly comply with those regulations relating to the flight and maneuver of the aircraft.

     5. All national and foreign registered aircraft providing scheduled or nonscheduled commercial service or general aviation service needing to refuel at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport shall make arrangements to do so with the Airport Administration, which is the only agency authorized to provide this service.
