The categories of airports are:

M-Major

International airports of entry and departure where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are carried out, and which are open to scheduled and nonscheduled flights.

R-Restricted

International airports of entry and departure at which the formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are made available on a restricted basis, to flights with prior approval only.

A-Alternate

International airports specified in the flight plan to which a flight may proceed when it becomes inadvisable to land at the airport of intended landing.

N-Nonscheduled

International airports at which approval may be granted, provided the prescribed prior notice is given, for international nonscheduled flights only; no other form of international operation is permitted.

E-External

International airports of entry and departure for international air traffic located in an administered territory, where all formalities incident to Customs, Immigration, Health and similar procedures are available.

2. Further Entry Requirements

     1. Private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying for noncommercial purposes must give at least 14 working days notice to the Secretary to the Niue Government, P.O. Box 67 Central Atul, Niue. Telephone:683-4020; Fax:683 423 or 4215. All notifications must include all details pertinent to the flight.

     2. All nonscheduled commercial aircraft landing for commercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Secretary of Government at least 14 days prior to departure.

     3. All requests must include:

       a. Name and address of operator.

       b. Type and registration of aircraft.

       c. Name and qualifications of flight captain.

       d. Purpose of flights.

       e. Number of flights and routings.

       f. Aerodromes of landing.

       g. Dates and times of arrival and departure.

       h. Estimated landing and take-off weights.

       i. Number of passengers.

       j. Loading figures.

       k. Proposed fares, charter rate, and cargo rates.

       l. Name and address of charterer.

       m. Certification of adequate third party insurance.

     Passport, onward/return ticket, and confirmed hotel accommodations required. Visa not required for stay of up to 30 days. For additional information, consult the Embassy of New Zealand (202/328-4800).
