Aircraft Entry Requirements

Permission

1. All private and nonscheduled commercial aircraft overflying or landing for commercial or noncommercial purposes must obtain prior permission from the Director of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministerial Building, George Street, Freetown, Sierra Leone (Telegraphic Address: AIRCIVIL FREETOWN; Telex: None). Request may also be submitted through the American Embassy, Freetown (Telegraphic Address: AM EMBASSY FREETOWN; Telex: None). All requests must be submitted enough in advance so as to reach the Director of Civil Aviation at least 72 hours prior to arrival.

2. All requests must include:

a. Name of aircraft operator.

b. Aircraft type and registration marks.

c. Dates and times of arrival and departure from Freetown.

d. Place or places of embarkation abroad of passengers and cargo.

e. Purpose of flight.

f. Number of passengers and type and amount of cargo.

g. Name, address, and business of charterer, if any.

Corporate Aircraft Constraints

Cabotage requires permission of Director of Civil Aviation.

Special Notices

1. Aircraft requiring handling facilities at Freetown, Lungi Airport must indicate this on the flight plan or make direct arrangements with Sierra Leone Airlines, P.O. Box 285, Freetown (Telegraphic Address: AIRLEONE FREETOWN; Telex: 3242).

2. Any commercial aircraft that registers a flight plan stating that its last destination was South Africa, or that it intends to fly directly to South Africa from Sierra Leone, will not be allowed to land in Sierra Leone.
