AIFSS SPECIALIST BIOGRAPHY
As air traffic control specialists (ATCS) part of our job is to provide pilot weather briefings. We would like to take this opportunity to give you some background on the people who provide your briefings.
The training of an ATCS begins with the Flight Service Initial Qualification course in Oklahoma City lasting over four months. Here the intensive preparation begins. Everything from weather theory to satellite interpretation is covered in depth. However, the training doesn't stop after graduation. Once we arrive at the facility, intensive in-house training begins in preparation for certification, not only by FAA, but also the National Weather Service. After all certifications are complete, training continues as an on-going process with monthly training sessions as well as constant performance reviews by supervisors and the National Weather Service.
The reason we are supplying you with this information is so that you can feel confident the service we are providing is the most accurate and timely anywhere. It's a service, provided by professionals, which is second to none and could be considered the best in the country, or for that matter, the world. We recognize that there is always room for improvement, and we are striving to improve the service we provide.
