Jim Washington - Director
Mr. Washington has been with
the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) for 25 years. He began his Federal work
as a Presidential Management Intern with DOT and has served
in the air traffic, airports and logistics organizations over
the course of his FAA career. Jim has held several management
positions in the Alaskan and Great Lakes Regions as well as
FAA headquarters in Washington, DC. Mr. Washington has been
a member of the FAA Senior Executive Service since 1994. From
February to April 1996, he served as Acting Associate Administrator
for Airports. In 1979, he received the DOT Secretary's Award
for Outstanding Achievement in Equal Employment Opportunity.
He is a graduate of Dartmouth
College and also received an MPA from Syracuse University,
Maxwell School of Public Affairs. Prior to being appointed
to his current position, he served as the Acting Director
of Air Traffic.

John Staples-Acting Deputy Director
John Staples is Acting Deputy
Director for Air Traffic System Requirements, ARS-2. He began
his Senior Executive Service in 1998 as the Program Director
for Plans and Performance, ARX. He started his FAA career
in June of 1990 and served as the manager of the Area Control
Facilities Branch in ATR. John is particularly proud of his
accomplishment between February and October of 1996 when he
formed and managed the Weather Requirements Division, which
later on turned into the Aviation Weather Program Directorate.
When the Air Traffic and Airway Facilities organizations merged
in 1997, he served as the Chief of Staff for the Air Traffic
Systems Requirements Service.
Prior to the FAA, he served
for over 20 years in the US Air Force, 17 of those years were
holding various positions in air traffic control. John graduated
with a Bachelor in Science degree from the University of Maine.
