You should be able to click on the link here and download the report to your machine and automatically view the report in MS Word. EXCELLENCE IN MANAGEMENT AWARD

The 2001 Winner

Background - The Air Traffic Supervisors Committee would like to recognize those outstanding Air Traffic Managers who serve as an example of leadership and communications. Publicizing the good works of excellent facility managers is intended not only to show support for those selected individuals, but is also intended to promote the qualities that supervisors recognize as being critical to excellence in field facility management.

Award - Acknowledging the key role that the facility Air Traffic Manager plays in air traffic operations and administration, the National Air Traffic Supervisors Committee will recognize those field managers who have demonstrated excellence during the past year. This annual award will be presented by the Director of Air Traffic to three field facility managers.

Criteria (recipients to have demonstrated all of the below listed qualities):

  • Effectiveness as a facility manager - using measures such as: facility evaluations, operational errors, budget, user feedback, etc..

  • Excellent communications - with all members of the facility team.

  • Demonstrated leadership - sets a personal example, innovator, risk taker.

  • Motivates subordinates - generates enthusiasm in the facility.

  • Makes best use of the supervisory workforce - providing guidance,

  • Promoting empowerment with accountability, including supervisors in decision making processes, and encouraging career development.

Nominations: Candidates may be nominated by any Air Traffic Supervisor, to be submitted through their respective Regional SUPCOM Chairperson. Each nomination is to be accompanied by a written citation, providing specific examples for each of the criteria shown above. Consideration for this award is limited to those managers who have served, in a permanent or acting capacity, as a field facility Air Traffic Manager in one facility for a minimum of one year covering at least the period October 1, 1999 through September 30, 2000. Finalists will be recommended to AAT-1 by the National SUPCOM Officers.

Timeline: Nominations must be submitted to Regional SUPCOM Chairs no later than October 30, 2000, and to the National SUPCOM Officers no later than November 13, 2000, with the final selection process to be completed by December 1, 2000.

Recognition: Selected managers will be invited to Washington to receive the award from AAT-1 at the National SUPCOM conference in January 2001.

Timeline and Process for 2001 Air Traffic Excellence in Management Award

9/1/00 Announcement of 2001 award to all facilities on monthly national SUPCOM Telecon. Advertising by SUPCOM to include all regional and facility SUPCOM officers, all facility ATMs and ATD managers. Announcements to be made on next available weekly telecon by AAT-1 and ATDs.

9/15/00 Marketing assessment to be conducted by National SUPCOM officers to ensure all facilities have been apprised of this award.

10/27/00 Deadline for submission of nominations to Regional SUPCOM Chairs. Regional chairs to solicit comments on each nominee from respective Facility SUPCOM Chairperson and ATD manager, then forward all nominations and comments to National SUPCOM officers.

11/10/00 Deadline for forwarding all nominations and Facility SUPCOM Chair and ATD comments (if any) to National SUPCOM officers.

11/17/00 Deadline for National SUPCOM officers' recommendations on three finalists to be submitted to AAT-1. Full list of nominations, citations, and comments to be submitted to AAT-1.

12/1/00 Finalists notified of selection by AAT-1 office or National SUPCOM. National announcement of finalists by AAT-1 and SUPCOM. Finalists invited to attend National SUPCOM awards banquet in Washington to receive the award in January 2001.

12/22/00 Award medallions and certificates/letters completed and delivered to AAT-1 office by SUPCOM National Officers.

FEB 1, 2001 AAT-1 presents awards at National SUPCOM awards banquet in Washington.
