FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION

ST. THOMAS AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL TOWER

CYRIL E. KING AIRPORT

ST. THOMAS, US VIRGIN ISLANDS

St. Thomas Air Traffic Control Tower is a Federal Aviation Administration facility located on the island of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The St. Thomas Control Tower provides air traffic services to all aircraft arriving and departing the Cyril E. King airport. We are also responsible for providing services to the seaplanes and helicopters which utitlize the harbor in downtown Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas. St. Thomas Control Tower handles a very diverse mix of traffic that arrive and depart one runway. Our traffic ranges from the small Cessna 172 to the widebody Boeing 767.

The Cyril E. King Airport is located on the southwestern end of St. Thomas. Several major air carriers provide service from the US mainland daily. The airport also hosts several air taxi operators who serve Puerto Rico and down island. The airport and control tower are situated right next to the Caribbean Sea. On a good day, we can see the island of St. Croix located 40 miles south of St. Thomas and El Yunque, a mountain on Puerto Rico, 55 miles to our west.

Living on St. Thomas does present varied challenges but overall can be a very satisfying experience. FAA employees transferred to St. Thomas are provided government housing which eliminates the burden of obtaining suitable housing. Federal employees on St. Thomas receive a twenty (20) percent Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) which also helps offset the high cost of living on the island.
