Orbital Sciences Corporation launched a Pegasus XL on 23 December 1997 at 19:11 Z. The Pegasus XL, launched from Wallops Flight Facility, Virginia, carried eight ORBCOMM satellites to low earth orbit. ORBCOMM is a mobile satellite service provider offering high-value, two-way data and messaging communications globally. The completed ORBCOMM system will consist of 36 satellites. Currently, 10 satellites have been launched.
