HOTBIRD 5 / Atlas IIA

Lockheed Martin Corporation successfully launched an Atlas IIA on 09 October 1998 at 22:54 UTC. The Atlas IIA, launched from Cape Canaveral Air Station, Florida, carried the HOT BIRD 5 to geostationary transfer orbit. HOT BIRD 5 is based on the three axis stabilized, EUROSTAR 2Lockheed Martin Corporation successfully launched an Atlas IIA on 09 October 1998 at 22:54 UTC. HOT BIRD 5 is based on the three axis stabilized, EUROSTAR 2000 PLUS spacecraft platform and is a replacement satellite for EUTELSAT II-F1. The five HOT BIRD satellites are colocated at 13 degrees East and broadcast 250 television and 120 radio channels to over 65 million households equipped for direct-to-home, cable and community antennas throughout Europe, the Mediterrannean Basin and the Middle East. HOT BIRD 5 is manufactured by Matra Marconi Space as prime contractor to EUTELSAT.
