The Dragon Reentry Capsule is manufactured and owned by Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX) of Hawthorne, California. It is comprised of 3 main elements: the nosecone, the pressurized section, and the service section. The mass of the payload is approximately 13,200lbs. The parking orbit for the capsule is a 16,300 km by 300 km elliptical orbit. After separating from the Falcon 9 launch vehicle, Dragon will orbit the Earth at speeds of over 17,000 miles per hour. After completing approximately 2 orbits, Dragon will reenter the Earth’s atmosphere, and land in the Pacific Ocean. It will remain under SpaceX control for the duration of the mission. The Dragon capsule will reenter the atmosphere under an FAA reentry license, the first ever issued. In addition to the Dragon Capsule, SpaceX will deploy 8 cubesats.
