FORT WORTH – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Southwest Region and the Vintage Flying Museum (VFM) will recognize over 200 aviation education volunteers and aviation industry partners on Saturday, November 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Vintage Flying Museum located at 505 NW 38th Street, Hangar 33-S on Meacham Airport. Over the past 10 years, the FAA Southwest Region has reached over 80,000 students and 30,000 teachers with aviation education information and activities.
During the Aviation Education Day celebration, FAA Regional Administrator Ruth Leverenz and VFM Directors Doc and Chuckie Hospers will honor many volunteers for their role in education outreach. In honor of the event, the City of Fort Worth is proclaiming Saturday, November 18, as Aviation Education Celebration Day. City Councilman Jim Lane will be on hand to present the proclamation. KRLD Radio and TV personality Jody Dean will emcee the activities. Texas Aviation Director Dave Fulton will be among the speakers.
The FAA will also be presenting the Vintage Flying Museum with a certificate of commendation from FAA Administrator Jane Garvey. The Hospers are being recognized for their leadership and service to the aviation community and for supporting FAA aviation education initiatives for the past 10 years. The museum has also served with distinction as an FAA Aviation Education Resource Center.
Notes Leverenz, "This is a tremendous partnership effort. These volunteers are acquainting students with the growing career opportunities in the aviation industry and providing educators with the motivation to use aviation as a way to improve students' math and science skills. We use aviation to reach thousands of students and teachers every year, and we couldn't do it without our aviation community partners."
In addition to the honorees, educators and supporters of aviation education have been invited to join the celebration. Following the ceremony, guests will be treated to museum tours, refreshments, and other aviation activities.
