CHICAGO — To once again ensure that it will hear all public input about the modification of eight new Military Operations Areas (MOAs) in Southeast Indiana, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is opening up a comment period beginning today through May 31, 2005.

The FAA has been working on a non-rulemaking action to publish four new MOAs associated with the Atterbury Range airspace complex and four new MOAs associated with the Jefferson Range airspace complex. The United States Air Force developed the MOAs and requested the non-rulemaking action from the FAA.

As a result of comments and discussions regarding original MOA proposals made last year, the Indiana Air National Guard modified their proposals to accommodate public concerns. In addition, to further mitigate those concerns, certain operational procedures to be used by the Guard within the new MOAs will be incorporated into the standard Letter of Agreement between the Guard and the FAA’s Air Route Traffic Control Center at Indianapolis. The FAA is opening a new public comment period because of the modifications made to the original airspace proposals.
