Moving Kids Safely
A Successful Intermodal Effort
On October 2, 1996, the regional administrators of the U.S. Department of Transportation hosted an intermodal seminar on child transportation safety issues which was held in Albany, NY. The topics were: Moving Kids Safely: Building Safe Communities which brought to our region many of the issues that were addressed at the national conference held in Virginia earlier this year.
Eastern Region Cabin Safety Program Manager Patricia Mattone gave a safety presentation which provided information on FAA's latest rulemaking, research and policies concerning the use of child restraint systems in aviation.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was responsible for the coordination of this resoundingly successful seminar with an audience of 300 people. This was one of ten one-day conferences held nationwide in an intermodal effort to bring together national, state, and local community organizations with allied groups and the private sector to create a safer transportation environment for our youth across all modes of transportation.
