This advisory circular (AC) guides airworthiness approval of Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance Systems (TCAS II) Version 7.0 certified to technical standard order (TSO)-C119b, and associated Mode S transponders.

This advisory circular (AC) provides guidance material for the airworthiness approval of installed positioning and navigation equipment. Positioning and navigation equipment may be used for a variety of functions such as navigation, automatic dependent surveillance, and/or terrain awareness and warning systems. This AC addresses the following avionics:

Global positioning system (GPS) equipment including those using GPS augmentations.

Area navigation (RNAV) equipment integrating data from multiple navigation sensors.

 RNAV equipment intended for required navigation performance (RNP) operations.

Barometric vertical navigation (baro-VNAV) equipment.

This AC does not address new satellite constellations that are planned or currently under construction. This AC will be updated when sufficient documentation exists to support multiconstellation equipment.

Establishes an acceptable means, but not the only means, of obtaining airworthiness approval of a multi-sensor navigation or flight management systems integrating data from multiple navigation sensors for use as a navigation system for oceanic and remote, domestic enroute, terminal, and non-precision instrument approach (except localizer, localizer directional aid (LDA) and simplified directional facility operations. This document does not address systems incorporating differential GPS capability.

Establishes an acceptable means, but not the only means, of obtaining airworthiness approval of Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment for use as a supplemental navigation system for oceanic and remote domestic en route, terminal, and non-precision instrument approach (except localizer directional aid (LDA) and simplified directional facility (SDF) operations.

a.       This AC provides guidance for the installation and airworthiness approval of Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS?B) Out equipment in aircraft.

b.       This AC is not mandatory and does not constitute a regulation. This AC describes an acceptable means, but not the only means, to install ADS-B Out equipment. However, if you use the means described in this AC, you must follow it entirely.

c.        This AC is primarily intended for installations compliant with 14 CFR § 91.227. Airworthiness compliance will be evaluated based on the applicable intended function rule (e.g., 14 CFR §§ 23.1301, 25.1301, 27.1301, 29.1301) recognizing that the intended function is to meet the equipment requirements in 14 CFR § 91.227. It is possible to receive airworthiness approval for your ADS-B Out system without demonstrating that it complies with 14 CFR § 91.227, however we strongly discourage this type of installation unless the installation is in accordance with the criteria for ADS-B Out in foreign non-radar airspace (e.g., Approved Means of Compliance (AMC) 20?24). Applicants using this AC to install ADS?B systems that are not compliant with 14 CFR § 91.227 must follow all aspects of this AC and propose alternate means as necessary to the FAA.

This advisory circular (AC) provides guidance for the initial and follow-on installations of Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B) In systems supporting ground and airborne traffic display applications. These applications are defined in TSO-CI95, Avionics Supporting Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B) Aircraft Surveillance Applications (ASA). The display applications discussed in this AC are designed to support basic situational awareness only. As more advanced applications mature, this AC will be updated to reflect those added to TSO-C 195.

Provides guidance material on how to evaluate whether data processes comply with the requirements of RTCA/DO-200A, Standards for Processing Aeronautical Data.

Describes the public procedure the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will use to develop and issue Technical Standard Orders (TSOs) for aeronautical articles to be used on civil aircraft. Presents an index of the FAA TSOs, which contain minimum performance standards for specific materials, parts processes, and appliances used in civil aircraft.

Establishes an acceptable means, but not the only means, of obtaining airworthiness approval of an airborne vertical navigation system for use under visual flight rules (VFR) and instrument flight rules (IFR) within the conterminous United States, Alaska and surrounding U.S. waters.

Establishes an acceptable means, but not the only means, of obtaining airworthiness approval of airborne Loran-C navigation systems for use under VFR (visual flight rules) and IFR (instrument flight rules) within the conterminous United States, Alaska, and surrounding U.S. waters.

Sets forth an acceptable, but not the only, means of showing compliance with the provisions of FAR Parts 23, 25, 27, and 29 regarding airworthiness type certification requirements of composite aircraft structures involving fiber reinforced materials, e.g., carbon (graphite), boron, aramid (kevlar), and glass reinforced plastics. Guidance information is also presented on associated quality control and repair aspects.
